A good Akela is young at heart and enthusiastic about life

Akela 2016 kicks off today! Who are the volunteers behind the scene that are making this fabulous event happen? We spoke to Jill Dickinson, Assistant Pack Scouter from 1st White Horse Cub Pack,  RTS – Adult Support Gauteng and Akela 2016 Workshop Co-coordinator!

SSA: How long have you been involved in the Scouting Movement?
I’ve been here for over 24 years!

SSA: Why did you join the Cubbing branch?
Because is is the most rewarding experience to be able to work with the younger age group.

SSA: Name one of the most meaningful memories you have of your time in Cubbing?
Seeing your Cubs go up to Scouts and receive their Springbok badge and then ultimately their Wood Badge!

SSA: What drives you to be of service to children?
Watching them grow and learn.

SSA: What is the nicest thing a Cub has ever said to you?
That I was a hyperactive Akela! (a long time ago :))

SSA: What makes a good Akela / Pack Scouter?
Someone who is young at heart and enthusiastic about life.

SSA: What are you personally looking forward to for Akela 2016?
Fun and comradeship!

SSA: What do you hope Akela 2016 achieves?
Helping the community at the Early Childhood Development Center we will be assisting.

SSA: Lastly, we asked 100 Cubs what the weirdest thing is that they have eaten whilst on a camp. What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten outdoors?
Ice cream and custard mixed!
