Speaking on radio for my Leaping Wolf was tough!

Cubbing gives children the opportunity to learn new skills and try new things. We spoke to Gia Jenica Gounden (10) from Shallcross Cub Pack in KwaZulu-Natal about camping, cleaning up rivers and talking on radio.

GiaSSA: Why is Cubbing so much fun?
Cubbing is fun because there is always something new to do and to learn.

SSA: What was your best experience with Cubs?
My best experience was the river clean-up at the Stainbank Nature Reserve.

SSA: What is the weirdest thing you ate outdoors?
The weirdest thing I ate outdoors was food off a banana leaf.

SSA: What was the toughest challenge at Cubs?
The toughest challenge at Cubs was speaking on radio for my Leaping Wolf challenge.

SSA: What was the most amazing place you visited with Cubs?
The Botanical Gardens and the train ride from Durban to Scottburgh beach were the most amazing places.

SSA: Can you name a few things you have learnt by being a Cub?
I have learnt to tie different knots, how to make a conservation stove, I have also learned about trail signs and how to make a camp fire following the safety rules.

SSA: What things have you done with Cubs to help people in your community?
During Mandela month we knitted scarves for the Children’s Home.

SSA: What did you teach your mum that you learned at Cubs?
I taught my mum how to knit a scarf.

SSA: What makes a good Akela?
An Akela teaches in a fun way and helps when we are confused.

SSA: Why is your Akela special?
My Akela is special because she understands us!

Cubbing Rocks because … there’s always a new adventure!
