Mahikeng Celebrates Africa Scouts Day 13 March 2018

The main goal of Africa Scout Day is to take stock of achievement in Scouting and build partnerships for more social impact in Africa. Scouts around the continent celebrate this day on their Scout founders uniform.

A summary of points mentioned during the radio interview pertaining the legitimacy of scouting in Africa

  • The idea and concept of scouting started in Mahikeng ,South Africa 115 years back
  • The global left handshake greetings of scouts international was adopted by the founder Baden Powell from the Ashanti tribe King of the area now known as Ghana during BP’s expeditions
  • The international highest adult scout leader training award called “Woodbadge”was adopted by the Founder from King Dingizulu who lived in the area known as KZN after he offered BP a few of his beads and strip of leather saying it represents  Goodwill and Prosperity
  • The Contribution of Scouting towards participation in programmes seeking to address and assist in Africa noted challenges such as HIV/AIDS,Poverty Alleviation Programmes,Natural Disaster Programmes,Food security Programmes and climate change Programmes were some of the discussed issues during the Interview on Mahikeng FM
