NW Leaders’ Retreat full of fun, adventure & heritage building

The North West Region started 2025 with a bang! Adult Leaders in the North West hosted their 1st Annual Scouters’ Retreat in Rustenburg Kgaswane Nature Game resort from 1 – 2 February 2025.

The aim of the retreat was to allow a time away to boost our Scout Leaders’ morale, to encourage team building, and allow a bit of rest to avoid burnout. The weekend made it possible for us to strengthen relationships and increase engagement so we can assist our Scouters to communicate better with fellow Scouts.

Our Scouters concluded their weekend in-sparkling-style, alongside a special visit from Chief Commissioner Gary Pienaar! And the Scouters’ adventurous spirits were awoken when the stimulating games were taken up a notch with activities like quad biking, hiking, paintballing, and archery, amongst others.

To celebrate  #WorldWetlandsDay, we enjoyed a guided tour around the Kgaswane Nature Reserve where we learned more about the significant importance of wetlands, conservation and current challenges together with a team from the Northwest Parks Tourism Board, Rustenburg Municipality’s Waste Management Unit and Keledi Secondary School.

This year SCOUTS SA’s National Challenge theme is “Our Heritage”. meaning our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration. The tour around the Nature Reserve definitely gave us lots to think about regarding the heritage we as Scouts can build today and leave behind for others.
