Let’s change a life #MandelaDay

Scouting members around the country excel in supporting their communities! From clean-up actions to collection drives, to establishing food gardens, repainting buildings, and making jars of hope. The sky is the limit when it comes to Scouts being helpful and of service!

With Mandela Day coming up on the 18th of July, we are calling on all of our Scouts to step up and honour SCOUTS SA’s former Patron Nelson Mandela by helping those in need within your communities. One small action can change a life!

This year we are not proposing specific projects, you can do anything you like in your Group – but we would love to hear about it! The more projects we can share, the more we can show people how impactful Scouting really is nation-wide! #scouts4sdgs

So, let us know what actions you and your Den, Pack, Troop or Crew did by:

  • dropping us an email (info@scouts.org.za) with a photo and short description,
  • or by joining and posting on our Facebook Group,
  • and/or by tagging @scoutssa @SAScout in your posts

You could even try and take it one step further by making your Mandela Day Service Project(s) a Messengers of Peace initiative (MOP)! MOP is an overarching community service recognition programme that highlights service to others.

To qualify for a Messengers of Peace badge, Meerkats need 5 hours of service, Cubs need 10 hours, Scouts need 20 hours and Rovers 30 hours. Projects need to be uploaded onto the Scouts4SDGs portal and the link(s) emailed to info@scouts.org.za so our Better World Framework Coordinator can check and sign off. The MOP badges can then be purchased from the National Scout Shop. Find out more HERE.

Let’s be of service and change lives #MandelaDay!
