This past weekend Mahikeng was the official Host for Provincial Mass address for the theme ‘2018 Year of action and Celebrating the birth of the founder of scouting Lord Baden Powell (22 Feb 1857 – 08 Jan 1941).We are indeed re-branding and re-positioning Mahikeng as a Scout city
The Scout Movement is a movement that aims to support young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development, that they may play constructive roles in society, with a strong focus on the outdoors and survival skills.BP started the scouts movement inspired by young cadets in the Anglo Boer war dubbed “The siege of Mahikeng”(1899 -1900)
The movement employs the Scout method, a programme of informal education with an emphasis on practical outdoor activities, including camping, woodcraft, aquatics, hiking, backpacking, and sports
We commemorated this day by having a weekend camp activity at the Scout centre in Mahikeng and particularly aimed at carrying ” service to the community” through outreach programmes and the BP Memorial lecture was also conducted
We thank all those cubs,Guides and scouts who visited and camped with us -Kagisano-Molopo,Vryburg,Potch,Klerksdorp, Brits and Rustenburg Scout groups
We also reach out to the BP Sunday Organising team who hardly slept ensuring all camp logistics are in order.Your efforts are appreciated
And to the following Corporate Sponsors who made it possible PriceWaterhousecoopers,Atamelang Bus Services and Mahikeng Blue Ribbon your contribution towards this event is highly appreciated and won’t be forgotten
The most worth-while thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others-BP
Let us all, try to leave this world a little better than we found it so that when it’s time to leave this world,by then we would have made it a better place-BP
